Pre-opening Comments for Wednesday March 11th

U.S. equity index futures were lower this morning. S&P 500 futures were down 13 points at 8:35 AM EST.

S&P 500 futures dropped 14 points following release of the February U.S. Consumer Price Index at 8:30 AM EST. Consensus was a 0.3% increase versus a 0.2% increase in January. Actual was up 0.3%. On a year-over-year basis, February CPI was expected to increase 2.4% versus a 2.4% increase in January. Actual was up 2.4% Excluding food and energy, February CPI was expected to increase 0.2% versus a 0.3% in January. Actual was up 0.2%. On a year-over-year basis, core CPI was expected to increase 2.5% versus a 2.5% increase in January. Actual was up 2.5%.

WTI Crude Oil dropped $3.29 to $83.10 per barrel.

Oracle added $14.09 to $163.49 after reporting higher than consensus fiscal third quarter revenues and earnings. The company also offered positive guidance.

Unifirst (UNF) added $23.99 to $281.90 after Cintas offered to purchase the company in a deal valued at $5.5 billion.
