Pre-opening Comments for Tuesday May 13th<\/sup><\/strong><\/font><\/em><\/p>\n

U.S. equity index futures were lower this morning<\/b>. S&P 500 futures were up 9 points at 8:35 AM EDT.<\/em><\/p>\n

S&P 500 futures added 12 points following release of April U.S. Consumer Price Index<\/b> at 8:30 AM EDT. Consensus was a 0.3% increase versus a 0.1% drop in March. Actual was a 0.2% gain. Consensus for core CPI was a 0.3% gain versus a 0.1% gain in March. Actual was a 0.2% gain. <\/em><\/p>\n

Several Wall Street investment firms are raising their target prices for major U.S. equity indices<\/b>. Goldman Sachs raised its target on the S&P 500 from 5,900 to 6,100. Yardini Research raised its S&P 500 target from 6,000 to 6,500.<\/em><\/p>\n

Coinbase Global<\/b> (COIN) added $19.57 to $226.80 after news that the stock will be added to the S&P 500 next Monday. <\/em><\/p>\n

Simon Properties<\/b> (SPG) dropped $1.26 to $170.18 after reporting lower than consensus first quarter earnings. <\/em><\/p>\n

UnitedHealth Group<\/b> (UNH) dropped $40.76 to $337.86 after the company\u2019s Chief Executive Officer stepped down.<\/em><\/p>\n

North American equity indices moved higher on news that at least a temporary resolution on tariffs between the U.S. and China has been reached.<\/b> Intermediate resistance levels were breached by North American equity indices: The S&P 500 Index moved above 5,786.95. The NASDAQ Composite Index moved above 18,281.13. The Russell 2000 ETF moved above $209.27. The TSX Composite Index moved above 25,454.86.<\/p>\n

Note that the S&P 500 Index and NASDAQ Composite moved above their 200 day moving average, an encouraging longer term technical sign. Also, the Dow Jones Industrial Average moved above its 200 day moving average at 42,249.19.<\/b><\/p>\n
