On a year-over-year basis, consensus was a 2.4% increase. The S&amp;P 500 Index and the TSX Composite Index have remained in a relative tight trading range since the beginning of October. The equal weighted S&amp;P 500 ETF (RSP) also has traded in a tight trading range, but recorded technical weakness on Friday on a move below its 20 and 50 day moving averages. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timingthemarket.ca\/techtalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clip_image001-9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"clip_image001\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"clip_image001\" src=\"https:\/\/timingthemarket.ca\/techtalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clip_image001_thumb-9.png\" width=\"244\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>North American equity indices normally record higher prices on declining volatility during the mid-October\/early January period. That\u2019s not happening this year<\/b>. Consensus for third quarter revenue growth remained at 8.3%. <\/li>\n<li>Consensus for<b> fourth quarter 2025 <\/b>earnings slipped to 7.4% from7.5%. Consensus for revenue growth increased to 7.2% from 7.1%. <b>For all of 2025, <\/b>consensus for<b> <\/b>earnings growth increased to 11.7% from 11.6%. Consensus for revenue gains remained at 6.8%.<\/li>\n<li><b>For all of 2026<\/b>, consensus for earnings growth increased to 13.9% from 13.7%. Consensus for revenue growth remained at 6.9%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"5\"><strong>Economic News This Week<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p>U.S. economic data is expected to resume this week now that Federal Government employees have returned to work. Timing for release of U.S. economic news from the U.S. Federal Government has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p><b>Canadian October Housing Starts<\/b> released at 8:15 AM EST on Monday are expected to slip to 275,000 units from 279,200 units in September.<\/p>\n<p><b>Canadian October Consumer Price Index<\/b> released at 8:30 AM EST on Monday is expected to increase 0.2% versus a 0.1% increase in September. On a year-over-year basis, October CPI is expected to increase 2.8% versus 2.7% in September.<\/p>\n<p><b>FOMC Meeting Minutes<\/b> are released at 2:00 PM EST on Wednesday<\/p>\n<p><b>November Philly Fed Index<\/b> released at 8:30 AM EST on Thursday is expected to improve to -1.4 from -12.8 in October.<\/p>\n<p><b>October U.S. Existing Home Sales<\/b> released at 10:00 AM EST on Thursday are expected to remain unchanged from September at 4.06 million units.<\/p>\n<p><b>Canadian September Retail Sales<\/b> released at 8:30 AM EST on Friday are expected to drop 0.7% versus a 1.0% increase in August<\/p>\n<p><b>November Michigan Consumer Sentiment<\/b> released at 10:00 AM EST on Friday is expected to remain unchanged from October at 50.3.<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"5\"><strong>Selected Earnings News This Week<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p>Another 13 S&amp;P 500 companies (including three Dow Jones Industrial Average companies) are scheduled to release quarterly results this week.
