Pre-opening Comments for Wednesday June 17th

U.S. equity index futures were higher this morning. S&P 500 futures were up 6 points at 8:35 AM EDT.

Focus today is on the FOMC meeting headed by its new chairman, Kevin Warsch. Results of the meeting are released at 2:00 AM EDT followed by comments by Kevin Warsch at 2:30 PM EST. Consensus calls for no change in the Fed Fund Rate currently at 3.50%-3.75%.

S&P 500 futures added 3 points following release of the May U.S. Retail Sales Report at 8:30 AM EDT. Consensus called for a 0.6% increase versus a 0.5% increase in April. Actual was a 0.9% increase.

La-z-boy (LZB) added $4.95 to $40.01 after reporting higher than consensus fiscal fourth quarter earnings.

American Express (AXP) a Dow Jones Industrial Average stock moved above $339.98 extending an intermediate uptrend.

Fortis (FTS.TO) a TSX 60 stock moved above Cdn$80.02 to an all-time high extending an intermediate uptrend.
